In this assignment I had to match lighting conditions pretty closely to that of an image. There are no textures on my objects, but I did try to get the material on the hydrant behave the way it does in the photo to get better results.
The hydrant was modelled in 3Ds Max, shading and lighting in V-Ray for Maya.
A class assignment where we had to model, texture and light a tree, i.e. make a CG tree look nice :) Modelled in Zbrush and Maya, textured and lit with V-Ray
- the awesomeness that is Stephane Halleux - I’m a huge fan of this man’s work
Nick Campbell (aka Greyscale Gorilla and noted blogger and educator), posted a video on texturing and lighting an iPhone in Cinema 4D. Besides a lot of useful techniques (most of which apply to other 3D packages just as well), Nick demonstrates what it takes to match a render to a reference as closely as you possibly can. His thought process and approach to this challenge is a valuable technique in itself. Also, his blog is full of resources, tutorials and just great stuff.
IMHO, Benjamin is in the top five digital sculptors today, seriously. His artistic ability and technical skill are unparalleled. His website does not seem to have been updated for a while, but it’s got amazing artwork to look at, free resources and tutorials and a very cool demo reel. Inspiration galore!
Best anatomy reference. Here’s a couple of galleries of Leonardo’s drawings.
